Driving from SE Wyoming to Badlands NP?

We're driving from SE Wyoming to Badlands NP in South Dakota next week. Google maps takes me to Scottsbluff NE then up to Interior SD through Pine Ridge and Wounded Knee. Garmin is taking me wide of the reservation and up to Rapid City and then east to Interior, about 50 miles longer. Even when I add Scottsbluff as a way point it still takes me the long way.

Has anyone driven through that part of western Nebraska and South Dakota? Is there something Garmin knows that Google doesn't? Just want to make sure I'm not missing something. There were some restrictions on the reservation during Covid but I can't find whether those are still in effect. Also there may be a ban on alcohol possession but I can't find whether that would apply to the beer in my fridge as I'm passing through.

Thanks for any additional info

I called the Pine Ridge Agency yesterday and verified that there are no restrictions, but the young lady I spoke with said that she would probably take the longer route if it were her. Google street view shows narrow but decent roads, but the images are from 2009 and it could be nothing but potholes by now.
