Estes Park to Cody

We are traveling in our 36 foot gas motor home and toad from Estes Park, Colorado to Cody, Wyoming. There are several routes shown in my gps.I’m looking for advice on which route would be the best for my rig. Any recommendations based on experience will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

The most direct route using I-25 to Casper is the easiest. Then 20/26 to Shoshoni, north to Thermopolis and then 120 to Cody. On Google maps Hwy 120 looks like a small back road, but it's actually a decent highway without a lot of curves or long climbs.

Be sure to check out Chief Joseph Highway and Beartooth Pass while you're there.

If you take the above route, stop in Thermopolis and soak in the city's Hot Springs State Park Bath House (that's where the name comes from).

You probably already know, but Cody has 3-great Museums in one area that should not be missed called The Buffalo Bill Center of the West.

If you are headed over to Yellowstone you'll travel through the Wapitii Valley, there is a State Park there on the Buffalo Bill Reservoir that's a good place stay.

Here's what it looks like:

If you have any interest in old west and military firearms you should plan on getting lost in the Firearms museum for several hours at least.

If you don’t mind me asking, where did you stay in Estes Park? We are planning a trip there in late Sept. What did you see while there?

Thanks,

We stayed at Manor RV Park. Not a campground. A place to park. Dusty, and muddy when it rains, which was every afternoon. $75.00/night. WiFi was good and a few over the air channels. We visited the shops on the main drag one day. It was the usual tourist stuff. The other day we took in Rocky Mountain National Park. It was beautiful.
