Galveston Island State Park -Recent visits?
This park has been one of my favs for a long time but I was last down there maybe five years ago and it was beginning to suffer. I like to look over the area on Gogglemaps and it has both good and bad showing, so thought I would ask if anybody has been down in an RV lately.
What I see for bad is the way the trails and roads are gradually being moved or cut off as the water comes up.
Two trails that I notice are the Clapper Rail Trail and Jenkins Trail which are no longer full length or go fully around the point but now cut across. Heron's Walk Trail looks iffy at best and is dead end now as well as the North end of Park Road 66 no longer has a launching ramp.
When I was last down, there was some question of how long they would get funding to repair things like roads where the ground was getting too mushy to support the weight of traffic, but now, it looks like they have new paving in the RV circle of campsites and the access at the drive has been rebuilt and repaired.
So how's the camping? Good or do we need to brings our waders?
