Our 2-1/2 Year US and Canadian Adventure Comes to an End...
We bought our Adventurer and Bronco new when we retired in June of 2022. We have spent the last 2-1/2 years exploring these two great countries and have decided to pull into port for a while in the Palm Springs area.
Our goal was to see as many National Parks as possible and look for our new community and home.
This has been some of the most amazing, transformational, relationship building, and terrifying times of our lives. Freedom is uncertainty! Uncertainty can be scary!
I posted previously on our first year, and wanted to share a bit of information on the last year. Plus, we're probably going to sell the rig and I might not be on here that much, if at all, so I wanted to share the rest of our story, say goodbye, and thanks to all who have helped us along the way.
We headed out from Central PA in October last year for The Great Adventure Part 2.
Here are a few highlights:
Through central VA over to the coast via Richmond and down trough Virginia Beach. What I remember most about VA are barking dogs and gunfire! Celebrated our anniversary at the VA Museum of Fine Art in Richmond - nice little restaurant there. Also, the Aquarium and Aviation Museum in VA Beach are really nice. Think we stayed in Luray and Surf City, too though the latter might have been NC.
Took a ferry from the tip of the peninsula over to NC near E City. Remember visiting back in the late 80's when my brother was flying C-130's out of there.
Put your rig on a ferry - it's really cool! -and a little terrifying!
Think NC was just Myrtle. Off season so not too bad. Reminds me of Pigeon Forge at the beach.
From there we traveled down the coast to St. Augustine with stops in Charleston and Hilton Head with a visit to Savannah. Fell in love with Collards at a place called Saltwater Cowboys I think. Best I have had yet.
The aircraft carrier is cool. Can't remember much else that stands out right now, other than traveling the Sunday after Thanksgiving in driving rain.
Make sure you know when the holidays are when you are booking 6 months in advance.
The fort in St. Augustine was neat, and some real characters have settled there. Seems to be all about the drinking - just like Key West.
Then over to Orlando to visit Phyllis' sister and see her mom one last time.
Traffic - ugh! Margaritaville is a trip.
Finally on to Ft Myers to see Phyllis' BFF from here childhood. Still recovering from the previous hurricane there.
Here is what I want to say - there is still humidity and mosquitos during the winter in FL and all along the gulf - we'll get to that later! Had some nice sites and reasonable weather other than multiple Tornado warnings in Ft Myers, but the mossies would chase you in in a blink!
I'll pick this up later on our tip down the Overseas Highway on to Key West for Christmas...
Peace and Safe Travels!
