US Hwy 50 in Colorado

Has anyone traveled US Hwy 50 from Grand Junction to Colorado Springs? I have a 43 ft Class A towing a Ram 1500.

I have several times, last time this past August east to west. Beautiful scenery, pretty good road conditions. Take a look to see what construction projects are slated this year .... pretty significant.

Just FYI on this for summer 2021, CDOT will be doing pretty significant construction on US 50 somewhat west of Curecanti Reservoir this summer, it sounds like it'll be a real mess as the road is only open like 2-3 times a day for ~hour, and only 1 way alternating. There is a detour, but I don't know how busy that will be.

While it's a nice route.. may be better to do 70 to Denver or Frisco.

All things considered it is not likely to rise to the crisis levels some of the more busy routes get. We just tried going East out of Houston on Route 10 and decided to never do that again! The problem with I -10 in that area is the lack of many good alternates, So we cut North on the way back and went through some of "lesser known" spots like Jasper, Texas!

As for driving, we traveled yesterday from Cannon City to Salida on it, what a great road. You should not have any problem its a good mountain road.

HWY 50

We round trip Colorado Springs to west coast 4 x/yr. hwy 50 is our favorite route.Slower than other hwys, two passes over 8K ft.in CO, follows the Arkansas River. Donner Pass in CA. can be treacherous during winter.very long steep grade on the west side.

Lots of wildlife, including bear, big horn sheep, moose in CO and wild horse heards and feral mules in NV..Many Pony Express historical monuments Few semi-trucks and gas stations in many sections. Not many places to get assistance in emergencies.Hwy50 joins HWY70 in UT, lots of National Parks to visit. Plan overnight stops in advance, there are many dry lake beds in NV with few pull outs. Invisible strong dust devils (mini-tornadoes) can occur in hot summer flat areas that have the potential to wrench the steering wheel out of your hands, scary!

Hwy50 becomes a major route in CA try to travel on week days, off hours, Bay Area traffic is terrible.
