You are correct, they do not "re-dip the frame" as I was told that Freightliner did all of that before the chassis arrives in Forest City. Every other metal part that Winnie adds to the frame is hot dipped prior to incorporation into the sidewalls or is dipped as an entire assembly such as the front cab structure. The dip tanks were sequenced where it cleaned and processed the metal prior to the coatings being added. Then the parts would bake for a specified time before they were finished. The front cab was built and welded out of pure steel including the floor. As shown to us, there was only 6 small pieces of tack strip that held the carpet into place in the entire front cab!.
Since we took the tour in an off time of year (and since we spent about a half mil that day), the director of PR gave us a private tour and walked us through all the manufacturing lines showing us each detailed step from the bare chassis as it comes from Freightliner, to the placing of each system within that chassis finally to the C&C machines cutting out walls, the tile setters setting the tile on a subfloor that is about 1 1/2" thick (about 5 sheets of laminated 3/8" plywood). Truly and interesting and informative tour.
