Micro 2106ds and Ford Explorer
2015 Explorer Sport with tow package [5000/500], Husky WDH with ~11.5 offset. Some observations after our first trip, New Mexico to Phoenix via Quemado, Springerville and Payson route: Most important is that the rear hatch does clear the tongue motor lift case [by about 2"]. The trailer weight [~3800#] ensures that we pay attention to loading the unit with non-essentials. We do travel with two dogs, one wife and myself, of course. Previously we had a Vista 221b that, when we sold it, I was amazed at how much STUFF we had inside. The 2106ds storage capacity is much less, ensuring that we wont cram extra items inside.
The Explorer, with 365hp pulls very well through hill and dale with smooth ascents uphill and the "tow/haul" option works wonders downhill. Gas mileage is not exemplary [~13mpg overall] but adequate for the setup.
In addition, I prefer bicycling to other forms of exercise so adding bike[s] to the mix is the next project. We know that the rear bumper is not capable of handling bikes and rack so I am looking into other options. Anyone have any suggestion?
Thanks
