Toad setup

I have a 2003 Chevy S10 4WD 4.3 V6 automatic pickup that I want to set up as my toad.
I am a Chevy person, but trading for a Chevy Colorado now is not an option $$$.
I have been told that I can not tow with the current transmission.
Is the purchase of a driveshaft disconnect my only option for a proper setup?
Are there other ways to setup with an automatic transmission?
MH is in winter storage

so I have till spring to do something.

I suggest that you contact Remco in Omaha

They are very knowledgeable and will be able to tell you the options that you have to tow your S10 4 down.

I currently tow a 2001 4x4 Automatic Jimmy 4 down (it has the electronic transfer case that can be shifted into NEUTRAL)

I believe the first question that Remco will ask you is what kind of transfer case you have ... so you probably should determine that before you call them ...

Check with Remco, they do the drive shaft disconnects. As far as I know the problem with the S10 is in the transfer case, I don't believe there is a neutral position on the '03;s. I could be wrrong though.

Remco would be your best bet.

Funny you should ask! I just setup the exact same truck that has the zr2 package.

I installed the remco driveshaft disconnect and a blueox towbar. Roadmaster told me their towbar wouldn't work. The disconnect is your only option. I also use a roadmaster even brake.

I have to remove a couple of fuses to keep the battery from draining but it is really easy.

The truck tow fine, so far no issues.

My local dealer told me that there were vibration issues with the Remco driveshaft disconnect and didn't sound to crazy about it. Have you experienced any vibration problems?
Did you get a new drive shaft with the package or did you modify your present one?

The only vibration I feel (before and after drive shaft install) is the mongo tires on the zr2 package.

I purchased the new driveshaft package. I had a shop install the driveshaft with the new u joints that came with the shaft. I installed the bracket and control knob.
I think it cost me about 750 $

I also tow a ZR2 with the 5 spd. manual tranny. I purchased the Remco disconnect and their driveshaft and had it installed about 3 yrs ago.

There have been absolutely zero problems with the kit. No vibrations, nothing.

Instead of pulling fuses I installed a knife style disconnect switch on the battery.

Jimandsue, I'm surprised that Roadmaster told you their towbar wouldn't work because I use a Roadmaster.

I think you will be happy with the Remco. Just remember to spray the unit with lubricant every few months to keep it working smooth. It gets a little stiff otherwise.

Skipsor, I may have mis stated about the towbar. What I meant was the piece that is physically attached to the towed vehichle (baseplate). I do use a roadmaster sterling towbar with the blueox adapters, sorry for any confusion.
