If you just need a couple of inches to clear the tongue jack, turn the jack head sideways. Doing that allowed me to get my tailgate down. All you need is a 5/16” awl bit.

Blue-Ox must also push the coupler back more than other traditional hitches. I haven't had an issue with tailgate clearance with either my previous Tacoma or my current Tundra.

Hello-
We are waiting for arrival of a 2022 2108DS which we will be pulling with a Tacoma so you seem to be the perfect person to ask a couple of questions. I will need to get a new ball mount but i need to find the appropriate ball mount rise.
I thought i had seen the 2108 has a 22” hitch height. If true I believe we’d need a 5” rise. Is that what you are using? Does the Tacoma squat under tongue weight at all?

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Hopefully one of the other posters in this thread will give you the coupler height of their newer 2108s.

My 2106 is from the older generation of Micro Minnies which had less ground clearance, hence a lower coupler height (19 1/2"). A couple of years ago I added a Lippert 3 1/2" lift kit to gain additional ground clearance and now the coupler height is 23".

With my previous 2011 Tacoma DLCB TRD Off Road and my current 2020 Tundra DLCB TRD Off Road, my ball height is set about a 1/2" higher than the coupler height. This ball height allows me to move all the weight I lose from the front axle when I hook up the camper, back to the front axle using my 750# weight distribution/anti-sway bars and gives a good bend to the bars for good sway control. Both receiver hitches on my Toyota's have a centerline height of around 17 1/2".

As for the receiver, I use Blue Ox's 7 hole receiver in the down position with the top bolt of the ball carrier in the center line hole of the receiver, this gives me about a 6" rise for the 23" coupler height. Here is a link to Blue Ox's installation manual, you can see the different receivers they offer towards the end of the manual to better understand what I am trying to describe.

I never noticed squat in the Tacoma once I started using 750# weight distribution bars. The dealership set me up with 550# bars initially, but I ended up replacing them with 750s once I got familiar with the SwayPro setup and bought a Sherline Trailer Tongue Weight Scale. I tried to keep the tongue weight between 550 and 600 lbs. due to the towing limits of my Tacoma (6,400 lbs/640 lbs.).

The one thing we did notice with the Tacoma was it liked to porpoise on rough roads, so I added Firestone air bags and would air them to about 25# once I had the camper hooked up, this was enough to stop the porpoising but not enough to have any noticeable effect on weight distribution or sway control.
