Hey John,

Yes, unfortunately the condensate does run down the outside of the coach, but that is a small sacrifice for comfort.

We could have run a drain tube that was supplied with the air conditioner down thru the coach, but we decided for ease of installation not to install it. Most of the time we can get away without running the roof air, but when it is hot outside it sure is nice to be cool inside.

Cheers!

Great job...and great idea. I am curious...even though you have FBP, your roof looks white. Do they paint the edge of the roof and leave the top portion white, which would make sense to do so?

Why doesn't Winne put larger heat pumps in the longer coaches...would 2 15K BTU units do the job?

smlranger,

Yes, the roof is white. The paint only goes just up over the crown of the roof so you don't see the white of the roof. It's supposed to keep the coach cooler , which it probably does help a little, but the FBP sucks in the heat like you don't know . I don't think that even 30K of BTU's would do the trick in a 40 footer. Three 13.5's would more than likely work.

Also, neither RVP nor Dometic make more than a 27000 BTU package unit in the RV market at this time. RVP does have a single compressor unit that we thought about adding, but its heavier than the rooftop unit, would be more complex to install, and wasn't as efficient. It would also take up more space in the basement.

But, it's food for thought for Winnebago. Certainly, either the package unit A/C manufacturers need to revisit their sizing offerings, or Winnie needs to think seriously about adding another single unit as an option.

Cheers

Winnebago got smart on the Vectras with the white roof.
I am thinking a full white paint job with a racing stripe might help...maybe the more HP you have the bigger your stripe could be !!!!

As far as I know, all of the Winnie Products with Full Body Paint have white roofs.

Our last coach was a 2001 36LD, without full body paint. We had little trouble keeping it cool.
