Question Anyone Replace Exhaust in '07 Journey 36G???

Recently purchased a 2007 Winnebago Journey 36G (350HP Cat C7 engine) We took it small local shop to replace the tailpipe. Mechanic told us we need a new muffler, but his supplier to didn't carry the one needed and put it on us to find one.

Long story short, we have called Freightliner, Caterpillar, Winnebago and they can't tell us what the OEM muffler is. They each have said to call the other. One of them eventually told us the muffler was a catalytic converter/muffler from Caterpillar and it would be $1,500 for the part. However, whats on the coach now is a muffler. We were also told conflicting information that Caterpillar made everything right before the muffler so we aren't even confident that's correct. We have called Winnebago dealer service shops and they weren't any help either.

We got in touch with the original owner, he said he replaced the muffler himself 5-6 years ago and thinks he got in from Freightliner. We called the shop he think he bought it from and they can't find the record of that sale.

We are going in circles trying to figure out what we need to do. We don't want to put the wrong muffler on and we also don't want to spend $2k on exhaust if we don't have to.

If anyone with this model as any experience with the exhaust or replacing the exhaust, please share! Did you take it to exhaust shop to have a custom muffler and tailpipe put on? If you ordered a muffler, what which did you do? Was it different from the OEM?

Thank you for your help!

Don't know if this helps, it's a search for your year/make/model with "exhaust system repairs" - several hits out there. Maybe?

Mufflers are not high tech items. So my first thought would be to go to a large muffler shop that deals with trucks. If the muffler is gone, it's quite likely other parts of the system will need replaced but that is just part of the game as we don't want CO coming inside while we drive.

For my 2006 Journey 36G with the 350hp Cat C-7 engine, the Freightliner part number is 04-21131-001 and is described as MUF-HORIZ,5" TOP IN X 5" OUT. I would expect that yours is probably the same. Freightliner parts should be able to source a replacement based off of the original part number. You may want to call the Gaffney service center for help, they have probably dealt with this issue before.
