Bedroom Slide Extends all by itself - wont' retract

We have a very strange issue hoping someone can give some suggestions - we have a 2005 Sightseer 29R on a Ford Chassis. When getting ready to go out for the weekend we found our bedroom slide extended - neither one of us remembered extending it when we got home the weekend before. The rig is parked along side our home and plugged in when we are not in it. Okay so one of us just "forgot".... push the button and bring it in - right??? WRONG - no reaction - switch lights won't come on, slide won't move. After refering to our manual (the rig is new to us -2nd owner) we looked for a circuit breaker and low and behold it was popped - reset it and go right? WRONG - still can't retract the slide - the breaker just pops again. Back to the manual to find out how to manually crank it in....about halfway in hubby decides maybe it was just stuck - resets the breaker and the slide starts going out - ALL BY ITSELF! So now we believe that the slide extended sometime during the week all by itself - once fully extended the breakers pops again. Manually crank it in and go off for the weekend without extending the bed. Stopped by a Winnebago Dealer to ask for suggestions -they have never heard of such a thing.... came back home, took down another panel and located the Control module and all wiring seems to be intact. Removed the KwiKee Switch panel and all wiring there seems to be intact as well - reset the breaker and the slide moves out all by itself.... HELP!!!!!! Has anyone ever experienced such a thing?

Not sure what the problem might be. But I would give Winnebago Customer Service a call, and I bet they can give you some help. Have your unit number from the sticker by the driver and vin handy. Might also check their web site lots of great helpful info there.

Maybe a switch. You may want to remove the wiring from the slide switch itself, then bring it back in manually then try it again. At least you can diagnose the switch.

Thanks for the suggestions - called Winnebago Service Center and the man I got had no clue - called a somewhat local dealer and he suggested the same thing as FDChief.... manually retracted the slide, disconnect the switch, and flip the circuit breaker on - nothing! Plug the switch back in and the slide went out and popped the circuit when fully extended. We are ordering a switch from Diamond RV in Hatfield MA - thanks to their great customer service!

Glad to help. This is the magic of this site. It's like working on your rig with a hundred shade tree mechanics and a few pros in your back pocket. What a great feeling. Let us know if the new switch solved your problem.

Problem solved!

I am happy to report that we have solved the problem. It was the switch mechanism - after several call to dealers we were unable to find a Winnebago dealer to find the part for us so as a last resort I "googled" it and found the part we needed on ebay. Thirty dollars plus shipping and we are back in business. One RV dealer from the midwest called me back to say he could get the part and our cost would be $238. - HUGE difference. Another local dealer told us they don't make the switch anymore and we would need to replace not only the switch but the control box to the tune of about $600. The internet has proved a valuable resource and I never would have thought of ebay but Jake has an RV salvage store and he is the place to go.....

I have often found that if you can get outside of the normal RV supply line and find the part, it can be had for much less $$$$$. Also, if you can go directly to the manufacturer or supplier, you can usually get it cheaper.
