Cat 3126B Belts

Next oil change I plan to have the two belts changed on our 2000 Ultimate Advantage 40J as we purchased it three years ago it has the 300hp 3126B Cat. When we purchased it I inspected the belts and they looked fine but now at 88,000 miles and I would think that they are original so just to be safe get them changed, does anyone have a ballpark idea on price I do use Quinn cat in Selma CA, for service and I will call to get a price I just would like to compare prices from other owners.

I did read one post a while ago that is was hard to get the belts over the fan blades any info on that would help, Thanks

I can't tell you about the price, but they may tell you that they have to remove the harmonic balancer ($$$) to replace the water pump belt. In most, if not all, cases that is not true. The belt will pass over the balancer if you turn it inside out.

I've changed the belts on my C-7 and I'd be surprised if they quote less than three hours labor plus the coast of the two belts.

How difficult was it to change the v- belt. What did you have to take off to get to it?

Not to difficult if you are mechanically inclined. On my Journey you have to remove the serpentine belt first from the top side of the engine. Then go under the engine and loosen the V-belt and remove two or three bolts from a ?? (I don't remember for sure but I think it was the Serpentine belt tensioner). You don't have to remove the tensioner just get it loose enough to get the belt past it. I hope someone with better memory adds to this response.

Thanks
I have the C 7 but i think the setup is about the same. Had the serpentine belt change last year when my fan bearing failed would have done that myself but was on the road and i did not think i had all the tools with me to do that job. I now have most of my tools with me. Thanks again.
