We live in western PA where they use a lot of salt on the road. We had a 2001 35u that we used all year long and it suffered badly from rust underneath. When I ordered my last coach from Winnebago I thought the $300 for undercoating was a good deal. Winnebago did a very neat and throught job. Most car manufacturer undercoat during manuf. but it is an option for RV's. If you live in the snow belt states give it a thought.

I know it's an option when you order the Workhorse chassis however I don't know if it's available on a Ford although the undercoating doesn't doesn't know the difference.

There's a product that I've heard a lot about called Por 15 (www.porcan.com) It's supposed to be pretty good. I ordered the started kit the other day and hope it will take care of the rusty welded spots on our frame.

Excellent point. I spent a few days this summer on my back scraping, sanding, priming and painting. Undercoating was an option on our Ford chassis in '02, I just didn't know it. Whups!

Don't forget to undercoat your entry steps, either...

We ordered undercoating on our 39K Journey but you can't tell if it was even undercoated. There is no sign any undercoating on any of the metal or bolts on the chassis. I brought it up to the dealer and he said he talked to Winnebago and was told that if it was on the window sticker it was done. They also said that the factory undercoating was not like the after market jobs. What did I spend $300 for? What makes me wonder is that after we ordered the coach in January the new brochures came out stating that undercoating was only available on full body paint which we did not order.

Here is another product to deal with rust. First company history:

Loctite history

The product Extend

Technical specs
Tech specs

I have a son who is an MEng (works in the auto industry in Detroit manufacturing parts for all manufacturers) and he is going to be testing this stuff on a used vehicle he purchased that will be used to tow his race car. If it works well I'll have to try it if my dealer fumbles the ball and I decide to live with the problem rather than take legal action. I'm going to send my son the details of the other product so he can evalute it as well.
