Front drivers side windshield cracked

Hello fellow R.Vers

On our maiden trip we cracked our drivers side windshield, just a small one on the upper right corner. would like to replace it in the states on our way from toronto to florida in november to save on taxes. Does anyone know what cost I am looking at? Any recommendations on places we can get it done?

2003 winnebago journey 39 ft with two front windshields.

Mine was around $900 five years ago and it took about a week to get it delivered to Billings, Montana where it had been broken.

I'd suggest having it done locally so in case any problem occurs after the install you can get it fixed. Plus the fact you will have to wait to have it shipped to where ever you are located.

Problems do occur after installs such as leaks.

I just had mine replaced at the Winnebago factory in Forest City. The cost was about $800 plus about $140 labor. They had to do some rust remediation during the replacement process. My wife is asleep and she takes care of the receipts so the numbers could vary. I also had the bedroom slide squeegees replaced so there were other costs involved.

The factory is a good place to have work done. It is best to call and make an appointment. Also they will make sure they have the windshield on hand. My insurance company (GMAC) called them with the claim number so everything was all set when we got there last week.

There is an excellent place in the Fort Pierce Florida vicinity. I have to look up the name also they are experts in the famous windshield rust fiasco. What area of Florida will you be in?

Just replaced one in Nevada and it was about $1200, but it was an insurance job and I simply paid the deductible. It took about a week to get the glass delivered. Work was done at my campsite and took less than an hour.

Be prepared to treat rust on the frame when the glass is removed. Guardian Glass makes the windshields for Winnebago. I waited three weeks for my local Guardian shop to get the right glass from Winnebago so you might check to see if you can get it quicker directly from Winne.

Glass, labor and labor/materials to treat the rust was about $1,000 last year on mine. I had a local body shop who also does limited RV collision repair do mine.

I had the drivers side windshield on my Journey replaced just last month in Cave Junction, Oregon. The insurance paid the entire amount (no deductible). Repair was done at a local glass shop. The owner said the glass was sent along with adhesives, seals, etc and the shop was given $250 for the installation. I don't know that the shop made much on that because a lot of the work took three men. Glass was provided by Duncan Glass America's #1 RV Specialist | RV Sideglass Replacement | RV Fogged Window Repair Specialist | Glass

If the crack is small enough, you can have it repaired, rather than replaced. See if you can find a SafeLite (I'm not affiliated) in any large town and they come to you and see if it can be repaired. We had ours repaired in Casa Grande, Arizona for $125 about a year ago and it has held up just fine.

I'd had the short crack on mine fixed about a year ago by a glass company but on the last long trip the crack grew to about 10 inches - so I had the windshield replaced (as in post 7 above). Most often the fixes work but didn't on that windshield. The fixes or chip repairs have held up well on my other vehicles. The passenger side windshield has three chip repairs and they seem to be OK.
