Can anyone tell me if the picture below is the hydraulic fluid reservoir and the yellow cap in the second picture is for checking the fluid and refilling.

Yes, but check out page 10-14 of the operator manual for some key information on how to check, fill and with what kind of fluid. There are two links to the 2016 Sunova operator manuals depending on your serial number. The hydraulic info is the same on both but you should download the correct one if you don't have a paper copy:
