Replacing carpet in 99 Chieftain 35U

Hopefully somebody out there can help me. I want to replace the flooring in my Chieftain and I am concerned about the dinette bump out. It sticks out 14 inches further than the rest of the slide. My concerns are, how do I get the carpet out from under it or do I leave it there and work around it. Also if I leave it under how do I transition from carpet to vinyl planking without worrying about it catching the transition. The glide strip that is under there is tight to the carpet, but I can still squeeze my fingertips under it enough to feel the smooth edge. I have read the glide strips need to be replaced when switching flooring, but I don't see any way of accessing this glide strip. I was going to make my own glide surface that would be put down before the slide was brought in. I have attached a picture of the floor beneath the dinette booth which was removed for exploration of the area below it. Thank you for any help you can provide. Click image for larger version

cut as close to the slide as you can with a utility knife. You don't need to replace any "glide" strips. I take an old framing square and bevel the end on a grinder like a chisel. I then slip it under there and hit it with a hammer- you can feel the staples break. Then pull out all the carpet and pad

Thanks, it appears that the only staples are on the edge of the carpeting. I will look into making a tool like that when the time comes. Thank you for the information.

anyone contemplating this can go to Lowes as they have some 4 x 10 inch decorative metal floor registers for about $18 each.

It's their home decorators collection seashore wood. We got it at the Home Depot in Winston-Salem NC. They had the price reduced to move out the inventory. It's $1.48 a square foot which was $30 a box and I needed 6 boxes and 2 pieces to do the floor from the drivers area to the rear wall.

Did your's have the wood floor also?

That looks really nice! We just got a '99 Chieftain 36L and are thinking about replacing just the carpet and leaving the wood because it is in such nice shape. Did you consider that or is replacing it all the best way to do it? Thanks!!

Indiana Bob, our wood was in great shape. Never thought of not covering it. The area where the kitchen is had glue down tile and it required some work to get the glue off. The flooring was rather easy to put in and has held up really well for the time it has been down. The only drawback is that the floor gets cold on chilly mornings unlike the carpet that was there.

Thank you. We don't have any glue down tile. Ours is solid wood everywhere there is no carpet (except the toilet room has linoleum).
