Sliding Closet doors won't stay closed

The mirror doors won't stay latched. I can replace the handles or springs but am concerned that fix won't last. When the door slips open even when I just retract the bedroom slide. Problem is the light then comes on and if I store for a few days I run down the battery . I took the bulbs out but would like to get a permant fix for the doors. Any ideas?

Had the same problem...fixed now.

First..make sure both doors are hung even..check spaces at top of door and adjust screws on hangars till doors are level and hang exactly parallel to the side door frames.

Second, make sure the handles are in the exact center (up-down) of the door frame. This is the correct position for best leverage to keep them closed. Sometimes, they (handles) slide to an up or down position...and they need to be in the center. To keep them in the center use very small bulldog paper clamps. Place one clamp (pinch handles removed) on to the edge of the frame right under each handle..this keeps the handle from sliding/slipping down. I use the chrome plated little clamps..actually appear to be door decor..

I had the same problem, most the time it was clothes fabric sticking between the door and door grove. However I finally just cut two pieces of dowel that I slip in the track for each door while traveling. Not pretty but it works.

If someone has a fancy way let me know..

We use those white, spring-loaded rods to keep the doors secure. Works fine.

I also replaced the lights inside the closet to have their own ON/OFF switch. That way I just shut off the lights when we are not in the MH for an extended period of time and don't have to worry about the door opening and inadvertantly turning the light on.

Great Idea...how'd you do it? Separate switch on light..disconnected door switch?

I just took the standard RV light they had in there and replaced with the same standard RV light that comes with a built-in switch. Two screws, two wires and I was done. Your RV dealer should stock the replacement light assembly that has an on/off switch right on the side of the lens.

If you take the springs out of the handles, you can easily bend the springs so they have more of a curve, then slide it back in. It then puts more pressure on the handle to stay latched.

All you need is a small screwdriver to remove the spring.

Best Regards!

I"m like ding-a-ling, I use a single white adjustable refridgerator rod wedged between the back of one door and the handle of the other. I really only use it going down the road. I disconnected the one door switch that usually came on and it hasn't been a problem since. Good Roads to all

my problem was with the button switch inside the door jam. It worked loose just slightly but was enough to not let the door lock as designed. Fix was to tighten them. Simple but fixed mine

Now that is interesting. I am going to check to see if I might have the same problem.

I had to adjust doors and bend the spring in one of the handles but they are working fine now.

Thanks to everyone that has contributed to this thread.
