2014 Minnie Winnie-modify to add auto flip to generator

Every time I have to connect or disconnect to campsite power, I get frustrated with the way things are in our Minnie Winnie 31K. Small area, have to go thru hole with wire.

I have been thinking about modifying to allow automatic switch between generator and campsite power. My first question would be "is this hard to do myself-well, my son and I?". My second question would then be has anyone ever set things up with a short cable that can easily dangle through the hole?

I would create an "extension cord" with the rest of the cable.

With a bit of struggle to find the right spaces and expect to need to extend several large wires, the work itself is not what I would consider high techie or especially hard, assuming the new transfer switch comes with good enough directions on where each wire connects.
Sometimes the added length and where to put those connectors may be a question but the switch itself is kind of basic. Two line in from gen. or cord, the switch picks one to connect to output to load center!
Can be kind of space hogs if compartments are small?
