Smile Advice for 50 to 30 amp connections

Hi all,

I appreciate this forum and have learned a lot!

Question: I have a 2022 Vista 29V that has 50 amp cord. I will be travelling through Canada and Alaska this summer and wanted to know the best way to connect 50amp to a 30 amp pedestal. I have 50-30 dogbone and want to know how to connect a surge protector (I have a 50 amp).

Thank you in advance!

Ann

Your 50amp protector will work fine on the 30 amp circuit, so it's simple. Your RV cord into the surge protector, the surge protector into the dogbone, and the dogbone to the shore pedestal 30amp plug.

You'll need both a 50A to 30A adapter and a 50A to 15A adapter for Canada and some Alaska CG's.

Travelling Canada to Alaska and into.

Dear Camper

I agree mostly with the above replies, but I might think finding and owning a 30 by 15 amp bone might be better, cheaper and easier to find. Therefore make a train of surge protector, 50 to 30 amp plug to post and then 30 to 15 amp to post, if required. Again with 15 amps you are not running too much with your Vista 29. Just did the Yukon to Alaska last year, plan ahead it will be busy this summer. We had no problem with power, water or sewer, only a few nights of dry camping but watch out for old gold dredge teeth flower pots.

Do not forgot about securing your surge protector with a lock and cable to something, they are valuable.
