DVD/LCD Combos

I'm sure this has been discussed alot, and I have been trying to find something, but not much luck...

So, I just got a 2005 Minnie Winnie (30V or 29R, it escapes me). But the space for the TV is about 19" square (removing all the existing mounts). I am looking for a LCD/DVD combo that will work in here with a slide out and pivoting mechanism as well. The installation doesn't seem that tricky of the existing one (and I am pretty well mechanically inclined), but I am stuck on trying to find something that will do the 12 voldt, and is designed for the vibration that a RV will produce. It would be nice to have at least a secondary input and even better a monitor input (We rent movies on itunes rather often). So where can I start looking?

Welcome to the forum!

Vibration is not an issue as the vast majority of entertainment equipment used in RVs are home units.

A 12v LCD/DVD combo may not exist.

If you have an inverter or generator or camp with elec hookups, then a 12v unit is not required.

Try looking on Amazon, Best Buy, etc.

I would check stores like Fry's on the west cost or Best Buy all over,, I'd void Camping type stores cause of the RV Markup on things labeled RV.

Now,,, I will ask you to re-consider,, Though I do admit I am thinking of a combo unit for other reasons when (IF) I replace my main TV, But here is my thinking.

Heaven forbid the TV part of your combo unit goes diodes up.. You can pick up a small portable (Which by the way you may wish to do anyway) and still play DVD's while it's being fixed.

Likewise WHEN (not if) the DVD part goes diodes up you can still watch Sat or OTA or Cable till you get to the store to spend 40 bucks on a new one.
'
'But with the combo, WHEN, not if the DVD goes diode up... The entire device is toast.

He's right. Don't get a combo unit. Several years ago, we purchased a 26" LCD/DVD combo TV for the MBR in our home. In our case, it wasn't the DVD that went out, it was the TV part. Then all we had was a very expensive DVD player.

You can get a very nice LCD or LED TV & an el cheapo DVD player for way less than a combo unit that is prone to failure of one component or the other.

I assume your Minnie does not have a voltage inverter?
I too looked at the 12V combo TV's. I decided against it for most of the reasons listed, but also because the 12V combo TV's seemed cheap. I opted instead to get a small name brand TV, an up converting DVD player, and a small voltage inverter. I went with the Xantrex prowatt SW600 inverter. This option allows me to power almost anything I want except large draw items like toaster, microwave etc. It only uses about 1/2 amp to power your devices with 90% efficiency. It works great with a smaller battery bank. With this set up I only fire up the genset for a few minutes when I need to use a high draw item. If you have 4-6V golf cart batteries then a much larger voltage inverter could easily be used.
