Read the whole thread before making comments...the OP's original problem has been solved, bad wire. Now the question is about whether he can use the crockpot with the inverter.
Yes, you can, no reason not to. Your system will easily handle it, and it should draw about 18 amps, as noted above. Won't hurt the inverter, the batteries, the alternator, or the crockpot.
Enjoy your stew

Thanks all for the comments-all have been interesting to read. Yes the problem has been solved, batteries tested good and the feed from circuit breaker panel to the fuse panel has been upgraded to #6 to better match the 40 amp breaker on that circuit.
The issue with the crock pot has to do with the long term draw according to the service manager but if I understand correctly what they found and what I have learned the two problems are really unrelated possibly. Magnum Ind. told me that the inverter does not control the 12v coach system as it does not go through the inverter. They just use the same batteries for power so the use of it does draw down the batteries. In my case the alternator was charging the batteries as they had a full charge even with the pot running.
Winnebago seemed to have agreed as there assessment of the problem was that there probably was a loose ground or connection. I do really believe the wire was damaged at installation but not being an electrician or all that smart with electrical stuff just not positive.
The use of an appliance will in fact drain the batteries so I would not use long term without engine running. I still however am not sure that the use of one would have caused that particular wire to melt. given they are separate circuits although what the service manager implied was that it did-interesting. All the posts have been interesting and helpful as I have gleaned info from all of them-thanks again to all
