Good question.
When the Command 30 control is set to Auto mode it will determine when the demand loads (batteries and/or A/C) are demanding power and when they are satisfied. It will then let the generator run for about 5 min to cool down after the demand is no longer. Once the timer is satisfied the generator will shut down automatically.
I have found that I can not run my A/C fan in the Auto mode. It is triggered by the need for cooling.
I leave mine in Auto Start when I am parked and plugged in to shore power. If the shore breaker trips, or power is lost for some other reason, the generator will kick in when needed. Once shore power is restored, the generator will run it's full cycle and when it shuts down shore power will take back over.
I do hope this explanation is more than clear mud.
If you need a better explanation please ask.
When traveling in hot weather, it might be best to leave the generator in manual and set the A/C cool high or low to keep that air moving in the coach and cycling the compressor as the thermostat demand call needs. I found out the hard way that it is easy to block the temperature sensor in my bedroom. I have a clothing hook on the slide trim and my pj's hang over the sensor when we close for travel. The thermostat can't be satisfied.
Happy trails and many comfortable ones.
