Looking For 50 amp Surge Protection/EMS

Buying a new Class A! Looking at Surge protection with EMS for 50 amp services.

Looking at Progressive and Hughes 50 amp units portable units.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Also looking at Hughes Booster/surge? Better option? Not worth it. Any feed back would be helpful!

Thank you!!!

I have used both, along with Southwire.

My current unit is a Hughes Power Watchdog. They have a Gen 2 coming out shortly that has WiFi in addition to the Bluetooth connection. One thing I like about the Hughes unit is that the surge suppressor module is replaceable. It is less than $50 if you take a hit that fries it. For the others, you have to replace the entire unit.

When the Gen2 hits the market I will have a Gen 1 up for sale. (or a spare).

I haven't run into a case where I have needed the Autoformer. We spent a week in a state park that was having power feed issues where it kept browning out. We just ran the generator for a few days, our EMS/EPO would kick the power out and we would start the generator. If we were staying somewhere long-term and the power brownouts were common I would consider the Autoformer.

We use a portable Progressive Industries EMS-PT50X and have used it fo 6+ years. Very happy with it. We had a 30-amp version previously when we had a Class C. When we got the Class A we were able to sell it on Craigslist in a day or two and get about 1/2 of our money back.

I also have the 50amp watchdog w/Bluetooth and love it. Just came back from 3 weeks on the Oregon coast with lightning storms within one mile. I saw people in the MHs unplugging from their state campground power pedals. I was going to unplug too then remembered I have the white faced Watchdog.... Went back to bed after I looked at my phone showing me things are good.

Your coach's specs first you might already have one.

Check the specs of your transfer switch, it may include a surge protector.

Another vote for the Hughes Power Watchdog!
Luv the Bluetooth, and lighted front, I plug in and wait for the white light and relay click in before plugging into the trailer.
Considering buying the replacement module to have on hand,…

Although the lighted face is certainly noticeable, I suggest their lock so no one steals it - at least will slow them down… Bill
