Onan Generator ground 2015 Cambria 26K

So I am getting a code 3 6 on my 2015 Itasca. Genny starts then surges about 30 seconds and when microwave lites up, the genny stalls. Thinking to check the ground, but not sure if every step needs inspection?, or if just the battery and genset are the usual culprits?

Hi Joetiii,
My gut tells me that it is an insufficient supply of fuel with the generator under load. The video below shows a fuel pump replacement, which might be your problem.
This older post shows the solution was to replace the fuel pump:

As your generator fails under load and before things in the generator heat-up, I do not think it is a ground or a controller issue.

I would first want to disconnect any load with the breaker directly on the genset to help sort if it is a wiring overload or a generator problem.
Just an easy point to verify as things do not always work like we expect, so it pays to be alert!
I hate fighting to fix something and then finding I missed an obvious easy out!

Yeah...after reading a bit about it, I think it is fuel related as well.

The conditions leading up to this are The RV was in storage for 4 months before this trip with stabil marine in the tank. Genny has been run 5-6 times for about 1/2 hour each time since then to power ac. Now, when first turned on, it surges pretty bad and then shuts down when powering the microwave. I am going to try the seafoam bowl clean first.

Is there a fuel pump test that can be done to verify its proper operation?

And would an auto parts store have fuel pumps ?

I did the Seafoam concentrate cleaning. Ran 6 ozs in 1 gallon of high test for 1/2 hour. Started with no load, then added AC, then microwave. Surging was almost gone after 30. Let it sit for 1/2 hour, then ran it again with seafoam mixture. Purrs like a kitty now.

I installed a fuel shut off in-between the fuel pump and carb. Now when I park the camper for more than a few weeks, I will run the genny and shut off the fuel so nothing is left in the fuel bowl.

Now I can finish my 6 weeks of travel back north.

Hi Joetiii,
This is good to know that it was a plugged-up carburetor. I should have guessed that before guessing that it was a fuel pump failure. Glad you have it fixed.
Thanks, Eagle5
