Surge protector running on 120v?

Been leaving my RV plugged in on a standard outside socket (with a heavy duty extension cord) and was wondering what type of surge protector i should use for this. i have a 30amp watchdog surge protector for campgrounds, but wasn't sure what to use for just standard power.

Hi Sorris,
I do the same thing. I plug my 30 amp three-prong into a surge protector, and then plug that surge protector into one of these three:
  1. the campground 30 amp service
  2. my built-in generator 30 amp outlet
  3. a 30 amp to 20 amp adapter plug
One never knows when Lightning will Strike!

30 amp is 120 volt "standard" power. Just uses a diferent plug/receptacle and heavier wiring that can carry up to 30 amps.

So: all you need to do is put your 30 amp plug to 15 amp plug adapter between the surge protector and the 15 or 20 amp power outlet and you will be protected.
