Make sure the generator works alright. 30 hours in 4 years is nothing to brag about. Has the oil and filter ever been changed?
I attended an Onan seminar once where the moderator (a mechanic) said he hardly ever had to repair a high-hour genset. His recommendation? He said, "Run the beejabbers out of it."

As we say in our W.I.T. chapter "the dark side gets another one". You will love the diesel. Ride, pulling and cruising can't be beat. As others have said the maintenance costs can be somewhat higher but can be spread out. Our '05 36G was two years old and had 13k miles on it. We have had a couple of M1's, an M2 and an M3 last April at the factory. Had done some major chassis, performance and interior upgrades and now have 55k miles and am happier with it then the day we bought it. Love looking at new coaches but can't even imagine anything coming as close to meeting our needs. Good luck and enjoy. Know you will love it if you can get even half the pleasure ours has given us.

You will love the advantages of the diesel and heavier drive line we had a 35U Adventurer and traded up to a 2008 Tour cannot believe how much better they handle especially in high winds

The title of this thread was "Trading smart or crazy". If you consider the huge monetary loss you will be taking on trading, it's certainly not trading smart. If you just have to have the diesel unit, you can consider it crazy I guess.

Thanks for all the positive comments but we passed on the Meridian. We will keep looking as we would like a diesel in the future. No bragging intended and we actually had a great deal on our trade, we just found better units out there that we want to check out.

I know the feeling exactly...
We were considering a Meridian and then a Winnebago Journey--both 40 feet. The Journey was in great shape, and was very hard to pass up. But we then found an Ultimate Freedom which is much more coach, so we went with that instead. It's hard to pass something by, when it is in excellent shape and a great price. We spent $25-30K more for the UF than the Journey would have cost, but we decided it just wasn't the best coach for us...all things considered.
There is an UF in Minnesota that is on rvtrader.com, and looks to be in great shape. You might take a look at those coaches though--simply to compare to the Meridian. Good luck in your future search!

UPDATE: We bought the Meridian because they gave us a deal we couldn't refuse. They are adding the few things we wanted bad enough to pass on the unit. Range with oven, aluminum wheels with new Michelins, power awning over the door. So we are happy campers!!! Thanks for all the great info, it was much appreciated!

I wouldn't say you're trading "down", I'd say you are trading "Up". 32ft to 36 ft, you'll really enjoy the space. Diesel vs gasser...we've had both...diesel hands down especially if pulling a toad. I still change my own oil and grease the chassis as well as other items like the gen set. We have the Winnie version Vectra, can't really see much difference in the two lines.
Best to you and safe travels

trading down
nowdays, the mileage on a dp is not significant as long as the miles are well under 100,000, so you can obtain a warranty policy. there are a lot of coaches with over 100,000 mi. and are in very good shape, but hard to get a warranty policy. i would recommend using your genset very often to exercise it. if it sets idle too long, it can not be good for it. it will be amazing what the extra 4' feet will feel like when camping. sorry i'm rambling so much - just enjoy the new coach.

I too have taken the plunge. 05 Suncruiser 33v for a 03 journey 36gd. Journey has less miles and all records. DW thinks were trading down, but I am of the opinion it is a upgrade. New michelins and full body paint.. Will pick up next week, weather up north permitting...

Meridian 36GSE
Here she is, took her out for Thanksgiving weekend and everything went great. Have lots of little honey do's before the next trip. So far we have replaced the radio (anyone need a Magnedyne stereo), added a mirrored back splash, aluminum wheels and tires, replaced the cook top for the cook top and oven (wheels, tires and oven were part of the deal), still want to replace the awning material with acrylic, add window awnings and put on a electric door awning. We have scrubbed and waxed inside and out. Roof was alittle scary but it looks brand new.

It's a Strongback Aluminum trailer and he had the air damn custom made for it. You can purchase it with the air damn but he saved alot having it made.

Hi TTS:
I think you made a great move,. it's a beauty. The Meridan 36G design is a tried and true proven winnwer.
If that trailer ever proves to much of a hassle, try four down towing. It's much faster and less hassle with my Jeep sahara 4 door unlimited. I use a Blue Ox tow bar with a SMI brake assist. Good combo
Godd luck and welcome to the DP side of life.
Regards Jim P.

TTSuncruiser: Congrats on the new coach.....we have the identical one, same color etc. I can only say we have been very pleased with ours. Bought it new in 06. Feel free to PM me if you have questions or concerns along the way. Wish you the best of luck. OH, if your serious about the radio I would be interested in taking that off your hands.
