1981 brave fuse box
Hi There:
New to this site, so thank you in advance for any help you can give me.
I just picked up a 1981 Brave, while fixing a clearance light - i blew a fuse. Normally not a big deal, but I have spent hours trying to find the fuse box.
Does anybody know where it it located? I know that it shouldn't be that hard, but I CANNOT find it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Albert

Not completely sure about your '81, but Winnebago used to have the dash pod that lifted up. If your's is like that, lift the dash pod and you will likely find the fuse panel under there and very accessible.

Thanks, I don't see anything like that, but there are a few carpeted panels
below the dash that are screwed in. I will try removing them and see what I find.
Thank you for the reply.

I spent all day today searching for that fuse panel. I fee pretty dumb that I cant find it, but I looked everywhere (upside down under the dash for hours). Any more help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Have you checked under the hood? Open the hood and look for anything like a box on or to the sides of the firewall. Obviously there is one somewhere. Also check your storage bays. I've heard of some that were tucked away in storage bays too.
You might also try giving Winnebago Customer Service a call. They might be able to tell you where it is and also maybe even provide you with an owners manual.
The following will take you to the resources page for Winnebago with contact information;
http://www.winnebagoind.com/resources/service/faq.php
Can you post a picture of your dash area? That might jog some memories for others here.

Thanks for the link.
I will post a picture of the dash tomorrow. It is such a simple thing - but I am having no luck finding it yet. I have a strong mechanical background, and never dreamed that I would not be able to find a fuse box.
Thanks again for the reply.

Using he link I provided above you might even try sending off an email to Winnebago. Be sure to include the VIN# and Winnebago ser# in the email. While the wiring and plumbing diagrams will not be on line for your motor home, they have been very helpful for others. They have even been known to scan older documents and email them to owners of older models. Whatever happens, keep us informed.
They also have a technical assistance phone - 800 537 1885. These folks are extremely helpful and might have the answer for you too.

Thank you, I will try giving them a call - Just work has been keeping me busy the last few days, an email may be the answer.
Here are some pictures - they might help.
It still is a work in progress - . But it will get there.
I am currently trying to solve some exhaust leaks. Some one had installed headers in the past and the gaskets are leaking on both the right and left banks. I have the left bank solved and am working on the right bank.
There is not much room to work on that 454 in the engine compartment.
Thanks again.

I wish I had the answer for the fuse box for you. I'm sure it is "hiding in plain sight" somewhere. I think a call or email to Winnebago is your best bet. Please let us know what they tell you.

Do not know what chassis you have but I will tell you about my workhorse.
Turn signal is on the fuse block by the parking brake pedal (under the dash) NOTE that different body builders put that block in different places.
4-Way Flasher (And brake lights by the way) is top-center under the hood. It is a plain, unmarked black box. Fuses inside clearly identified.
Your rig may vary.
I have two more fuse boxes in this house too.
I got lucky myself.. I found that top-center box... The day BEFORE I blew a fuse inside it.

A few trars ago we had an '81 Brave. Tried to remember where the fuses were - sorry. But, to a recent poster, ours was a Dodge 440 engine, Dodge chassis, if that jogs anyone elses' knowledge base.

I haven't had a chance to call the factory yet. By the time I get off work each day - it is too late. I should be getting home earlier later this week, and call then.
I will post the location when I find it.
Thanks again.

Thats a GM P30 chassis. Fuse box will either be in or around the glove box or under the dash by the steering wheel. It may possible be a swing down unit. If any of your turn signals or hazard flasher work, turn them on and follow the sound of the flasher. Both flashers are mounted on the fuse box.

Now that is an Excellent idea, the signal lights work. Why didn't I think of that.
Thank you.

Thank you Dave
Got a chance to go looking today. Turned the key on, turned on the signal lights, and followed the sound. Took about 2 minutes.
There was a pull off panel under the radio. I feel a little silly that I didn't think of your idea. Worked great.
Thanks again.

Glad to hear that you finally found it. Dave's idea was one of those "why didn't I think of that" ideas. Simple is almost always better. Winnebago certainly hid that panel well, don't think I would ever have thought of looking there.
