Okay.....what's the trick to opening (unrolling) the awning on my 1988 Chieftain?...

Power or manual? Does it appear to be the original awning or been replaced? Got a brand for the awning if it has been replaced? Mote than thirty years old, I might expect to find it having been replaced at some point.

Probably the same as the trick to using the cruise control on my 1989 Ranger. Get it fixed! ;-)

The video does give a great explanation of how it works. The little flip thing on the roller may need some spray lube.

The strap, to unroll the awning, is missing... THAT was the problem...

If you can post a picture of the awning so that we can see what you're working with.

Got the problem fixed? Or is it still not seeing a strap?
If the latter, have hope as some do not store the strap but just flip it up and it gets wrapped up with the awning, so that fully unrolling the thing might find there is a strap.
That's my optimus thought for today!

Wifey and I had to pull down on both arms at once (after unlocking) and down it came... . The strap had been rolled up with the awning... . Awning is the original Faulkner Ultra and in perfect condition...as are the mechanicals... A BIG Thanks to all.

Glad to hear it's solved. I first found the question of the strap rolled up wrong when we bought an RV pretty cheap as the awning had no way to extend it and was assumed to have to be replaced!

Awning
I have a 2008 voyage 32 h I’m having problems opening the electric awning press the button to open just inside of the door by the steps it clicks and the right side starts to open the left side doesn’t move the the whole thing stops. Press close it closes and cover closes what am I doing wrong or is the motor going bad. Can you open and close it manually.

I have a 2007 Voyage and have a similar issue. Every now and then the left (rear) side sticks like yours. Simply open as you have been doing, when it shuts down pull the rear hardware loose. Once you get it loose it should open just fine.
