My '02 Winnie Journey the basement doors are aluminum skin and frame, with 1" sheet insulation sandwiched with a plastic inside cover. Insulation keeps the compartment somewhat warm in the cold and helps cut down on road noise inside the RV.
That inside cover is held to the frame with 10's of rivets. When I had a badly damaged door, I opted to find an RV salvage yard and buy one from them. Then had to have it painted to match the RV. Cost around $1,000 for the work, most of that, $800, was for the door and shipping.
With my model, the rivets made it so it would have just been too much work to try to remove the outer skin.
