Buying a New Adventurer or Suncruiser
We finally decided it's time to upgrade to either a new Winnebago Adventurer or an Itasca Suncruiser. So far it's been a bit more challenging than when we bought our current one.
The last time out we were able to negotiate about 24% off the list price without much trouble. With a little arm twisting we were able to increase that by a couple percentage points. This time the dealers we've spoken to won't come anywhere near that. The best so far has been about 18% off list and they weren't interested in moving more than another few hundred dollars at the most. To top it off dealers seem to be offering very little for a trade in. The last dealer I spoke with was offering about 1/3 of the NADA Low Retail for a trade. So my questions to all of you are:
1. Were you able to negotiate much of a discount from the MSRP?
2. When you purchased was the dealer interested in a trade in, or ar we better off to sell it on our own.
3. Did you buy from a high volume dealer, or a mom and pop shop?
4. Were dealers farther from your place of residence more willing to deal than those in the immediate vicinity?
Thanks in advance.

Would be helpful to know where you are located, are you looking at a 12 or 13, I would think deals could be had on a leftover 12.
I bought local for a good sized dealer, no problem on the trade in. It is winter so I would think 25-30 is not out of the question.

We're located in Wisconsin, and our focus is on a 2013 model. So far being winter hasn't had any affect of prices. Since we haven't seen exactly what we want on any of the lots we're looking to order a unit just like we did last time. I would think ordering unit would be something the dealers would be interested in. They know exactly what the customer wants, there wouldn't be any floor plan costs involved, and with a deposit and a signed contract it would be a sure sale.
The dealers we've talked to don't seem very interested in either discounting a new unit or taking a trade in.

Just general speculation on my part, but I would imagine the dealer not wanting to negotiate much of a discount is because you're wanting to include a trade. If you were buying outright, you might get a better discount.
In the same light, they are offering such a poor trade in ibecause they're telling you they really don't want your old unit. Your signature shows a unit that is 12 years old, which would be a lot harder to sell than a newer unit. They'd probably have to send it to a discount auction to get anything at all out of it. Also, NADA values on rv's is based strictly on percentages from new, not actual cash value.
Strictly my opinion.

Pleasureland RV has 4 locations in Minnesota, i purchased mine here in Minneapolis. Could be the special order on the discount, mine came fully loaded and was on their lot. I purchased mine in mid november last year.

The Rv business seems to be up. The head winne guy was just on fox business news saying they were 6 months backlog.
I would also like to trade but I figure, with in the year, the economy will go to hell and they will be selling no motorhomes
