Basement Cargo Door Materials 2005 Adventurer 35U

I was wondering about the construction of a 2005 35u Winnebago adventurer's cargo doors that run along the bottom of the motor home, are these doors fiberglass or metal and are they gel coated or painted to match?

Just tested with high strength magnet in a rag and no attraction so either fiberglass or aluminum.

Mine are fiber glass. I has to fix a door latch so I saw the inside of the door.

I just removed a latch and it is Aluminum on the 05 35u, but now concerned if gel coat. I am wanting to know for detailing purposes. Thanks.

I would assume, that the Basement Compartment Doors are skinned with the same Filon FRP material as the sides and roof of the Coach. I don’t know of any gelcoat fiberglass on the exterior of the Adventurer motorhome other than the front and rear caps.

My '02 Winnie Journey the basement doors are aluminum skin and frame, with 1" sheet insulation sandwiched with a plastic inside cover. Insulation keeps the compartment somewhat warm in the cold and helps cut down on road noise inside the RV.

That inside cover is held to the frame with 10's of rivets. When I had a badly damaged door, I opted to find an RV salvage yard and buy one from them. Then had to have it painted to match the RV. Cost around $1,000 for the work, most of that, $800, was for the door and shipping.

With my model, the rivets made it so it would have just been too much work to try to remove the outer skin.

Jim, I have the exact set up and ended up going with auto procedures to buff out the paint during detailing the bin areas. Turned out very good on the side that I got done last night.

The are most definitely Filon materials made by Crane that do have gelcoat. I plan on calling Winnebago to understand the exact product put on this unit.
