Connection to air filter housing missing?

I have had 2 incidences with the 2020 Vista 29v over the last 2 years. When driving during heavy rain the wrench light comes on and the RV goes into limp home mode. Both times it required sitting overnight to resolve the issue.

I thought that being 4 years old, maybe replace the air filter. The old one wasn't that bad, but I noticed that there is an opening on the front of the Air Filter Housing, that is at the same level as the gap between the hood and front body work. So driving in hard rain would just go right into that hole and get the air filter wet.

Am I missing a hose for EGR, or something that might be connected to this hole in the housing?

I coulc not find a true answer but hints as used on THOR? Perhaps the same as this video shows and nothing on the hole for them?

You might try a test to see if thesmall one is the actual air intake or is it the large one pointed left? If you have it running and put a hand over the hole, does it suck hard and maybe make the engine stumble?

I see you've got the opening on the fuse box marked! That should make the air filter easy as I fought the fuse opening for way too long!

Thanks for the reply. Looks like there are similar issues found over at i2rv. People have put some piping on that hole to prevent direct water ingestion. I'll do that and see how it works.

Poor design for sure.

The bottom of the plastic filter housing is filtered air, so this is also allowing unfiltered air into the engine. Temporarily I'd seal the hole with duct tape to eliminate the unfiltered air issue; that might be triggering the warning light as the intake air sensor is not seeing expected lower air pressure in the intake plumbing.

The hole may have been capped at one time, if not, there should be a hose or pipe nearby that matches..
A large obstacle is, Winnebago supplied and installed the air cleaner to fit where their design engineers decided it would fit.

At this point I suspect your best source is another 29V owner or to call Lichtsinn Motors customer service and ask the experts about the air breather plumbing.

I don't think that is the case Ray, if you look close you can see the inlet air horn to the left which appears to enter the bottom of the enclosure and you can just barely see the intake tube from the engine and it's large worm clamp over the top center. Most filter boxes are designed this way to keep water from entering the engine.

I would guess that the hole in question is a drain for the air box and a solution might be to put a 90 degree hose on it pointed down to prevent water ingestion.

Good catch Brian. I went and looked at the air box in my Silverado PU and clean air is in the top half, dirty air enters the lower half.
