Was able to remove the tires without much issue, drop the axle to let it hang freely, and install the sumo spring for that side as guided by their videos and printed instructions. Rinse and repeat for the other side.

Just be careful with what lines are run on the back side of the frame rail, use zip-ties or Velcro to pull those lines out of the way if possible.

There’s no need to lift it sky high and have full droop on the axle.
This really isn’t difficult with the right tools and a sharp drill bit.

Just use the levelers to support the rear, maybe lift a little bit to allow a little more room for the top of the tire to come out. I also used jack stands to be safe. Your call.
Loosen the lugs with an impact gun. My DeWalt cordless works perfectly.
Use a bottle jack under one side of the axle to lift the tire 1/8” off the ground. That’s all you need. Just enough to wiggle it out. There’s no worry of the heavy wheel. Even putting them back on is easy. Just tilt a bit to get on the lugs, then push in place.
Now with the wheels off on ONE side, follow the instructions. Use the bottle jack to lift or lower the axle to get things situated, marked for drilling and bolted together.
Assemble that side, put the wheels on, remove the bottle jack and move to the other side.

Hi Everybody! I know, long time between posts. I just want to say goodbye...I have sold my Intent and intend to move on to a Diesel Pusher early next year. I really appreciate everything I have learned about RVing and especially my Intent during the past 2 years. Special thanks to YGOHOM, Wyatt and k9EG...you have been super helpers and inspiration. I am encouraging my buyer to join the group. Take care, be healthy and keep on RVing. Love Bill

Congratulations, Bill. Wow, what a ride you’ve had. From buying your first RV, the Intent, and THEN convincing (quite successfully!) your wife that she would enjoy it! That was inspirational 😊

Good luck with the new rig and safe travels!

Hi Bill, I knew you were selling your unit, because I still get alerts from when we were shopping for one in 2019, and I saw it was up for sale, again.

I guess your goodbye means you didn’t purchase another Winnebago? So, that begs the question, what did you get, or, have you decided yet?

So you know, we’re still here for you with any general questions.

Be safe, travel well, and God’s speed in your travels...

Hey Wyatt...nice to hear from you. I was lucky to find a buyer who appreciated all the add on items and cost associated and got full asking price for the Intent. I have enjoyed the coach and she performed well...have driven here 22,576 miles with no mechanical problems. Our only trip this year (thanks Covid) was 5500 to Michigan and back. I didn't even use a quart of oil!!!

I have not bought yet but she will not be a Winnebago. I fell in love with a Forest River Berkshire XL and am looking at others also. Amazes me how many used Diesels are out there with less than 10k miles.

Thanks again for all your help...feel everyone on the board is actually a friend and hope I can find such an outstanding resource for the new coach. I'll come back and show you pictures when I get her.

Bill

Ok thanks for your company and help on this Intent forum. Also sorry we couldn't get together this past summer on your way through. But maybe next time and you can show us your pusher.

Take care my friend and stay safe.

Thanks Robb for your instructions here. I will bookmark them for next summers project.
I don't have a dad any longer but maybe I can borrow yours, but I'm probably older than him.

Thanks again as you kinda made it sound doable.

I'm kind of in the same boat you are. We are trading in our Intent for another RV. We will be getting a diesel pusher. We have already ordered it. Hopefully be in by late Feb to early March.

To new Adventures and safe travels,
Exciting! Keep us posted...
I like the idea of a diesel, but wondering why the entry door is always over the passenger seat? I’d love to see one elsewhere.

I know of only two new mid entry diesel pushers.

First is a Winnebago Forza 34T. At least you get to stay with Winnebago

2nd is a Thor Palazzo. My parents have one and is a nice coach.

There are more options if you want to buy used.

This one came pre-programmed. They ask for your VIN# when you order so I guess that’s how they know which program. Of course, you know I have to save it for when we move out of CA...

Still wondering if you’ve tackled the tank sensors yet?

I was meaning if you programmed your engine yet. Since I had my Class C F350 programmed, I had to get a new program for the Ford F53. Think the price was below $100.

Also remember, when you sell your F53, maybe to get another Ford, you must unmarried your old F53 in order to re-marry your new vehicle. Otherwise it will cost you about $300 to get that unit un-married.

Yes, about the tank sensors... Just finished the Gray tank and it works great. Thanks for your research. I don't find it necessary to do the black as we don't fill that up as fast. So for the present time, will hold off on that.

Thanks
Denny

Yeah, once we move to a state where it’s allowed, I’ll give it a try...

The places that smog here in CA don't have a clue about what is stock on a car. One year I took my old Porsche in for a smog, and still had the racing exhaust system with racing Cats. It passed, just barely. And the exhaust system really wasn't even close to stock.

Wisconsinites are only bothered by the smog test in cities such as Milwaukee. Here in Arizona I don't know if Phoenix size cities have any testing. I have not heard of testing here, but I could be wrong.

IDK, I got smacked down last time I had to register my 1996 Bronco. Now, I’ve obviously owned it (since new) for a very long time with a K&N air filtration system I added probably 15 years ago. It’s a passed smog every single time because I paid the extra $200 to get the California legal version of the K&N filter.

So, I go to get a smog last year and they say, it’s not legal. I threw a fit. Turns out the state of California had the wrong numbers listed on their website for allowable units. Can you imagine what a fight that was?

Older vehicles have an exhaust test here in Phoenix. Newer vehicles get a fuel system pressure test, and a ODB-II code check. (I have heard of many valley residents registering their vehicles in Globe to bypass this requirement .)
