Help Identify item in engine compartment

Good Morning,

Doing a preflight on the new rig and found a thing I can'd ID, its mounted near the power steering fluid reservoir, attached to the steel air diverter. Its got threads on one end a wire out the other. Pointy thing on the end with threads.

Makes me nervous that something is missing on the end of the treads.

I am guessing some kind of sensor. but would like to know for sure.

Could it be an ambient temperature sensor? The threaded end might be for a different installation application, but not needed in this case.

Temp sensor and it may/may not have a hole nearby where it might fit.

It may be as simple as the temp shown on dash or as important as part of the ignition computer for different settings at different running conditions. If no hole shows up to mount it, I would want to fix it solidly to something to avoid future problems if the wires get damaged.

Its definitely intentionally mounted on that steel diverter, I dont see anyting loose that would have been attached. This is on a 2017 F53 chasis if anyone wants to compare.

Just a reminder - Winnebago has made and continues to make Zillons of RVs. We don't have a clue what yours is. You did finally add that it was a 2017 F53 chassis so that narrows it down to less than 1/8th of a zillion possible choices.

PLEASE do us a favor and either always list the year, model and floorplan of your RV in EVERY post - or do the easy thing and add it to the Signature in your Profile - see mine below to get an idea of what it looks like. We all want to help you but mind reading is really a lost art here.

We are working on a new Winnie Owners mind reading helmet that is almost ready for deployment!

It is plain to see that it is a powered bottle seal opener. when you get oil and is has that foil seal you can screw the bottle of oil onto the part you have pictured, and that tip will pierce the foil on the bottle.

It may read ambient temperature too, but I am sticking with bottle opener, is it April 1st somewhere?

I'll go with the bottle seal opener as it showed up on my 2015 Vista just inside the front wheel and hanging down so that when I drove over bottle on the highway it took the cap off for the fellow following me!
When I found how few were actually using the service, I tucked it back up in the hole it was mounted in before I bought the RV.
Apparently the former owner did not understand the value of this item but when I put it up out of the rain splash, my temperature reading got much better.

Maybe it is threaded because it is designed to measure air temp in different places, if the chassis is going to be a bread truck or a delivery van, vs a motorhome?

Or maybe the same part is used for the automatic climate control system of other Ford vehicles, and the part can serve multiple functions?

Interesting question.

I would unplug it and see what the outdoor temp reads on the dashboard, just for fun.

I see the threads as a way to give it several options for mounting. On my Vista it was mounted through a hole and the nut had dropped off to leave it hanging down as the only reason I noticed it.
