Strange problem with Kwikee Revolution steps
Our 2018 Winnebago Vista 29VE developed a problem with the steps on the last leg of our Christmas trip.
When the steps extend they chatter for about 6 or 7 seconds before the motor turns off:
So motor/stripped gears, right? Well not exactly..
The steps have been properly lubed, and with the motor removed they move freely in and out by hand.
Ordered a new motor and installed, worked great so problem fixed, right? Not exactly again. After about 10 cycles back to the same problem. So figured the new motor was bad. Got a warranty replacement for the new motor.
The 2nd motor failed immediately in the same way. So talked with Lippert they said it sounds like the controller has an issue. So ordered and installed a new controller, making sure to sand the areas where the ground lugs connect for good measure.
That did not fix the problem..
On the off chance that the original Lippert motor draws more current and would cause the controller to sense it should shut off I reinstalled the original motor (I had rebuilt it with a new plastic gear).
Same issue. Steps retract with no issues at all, but the motor doesn't turn off when the steps are fully extended.
Tested the batteries, no dead cells, water level is perfect and fully charged. All battery cables are secure.
Has anyone had this same issue before, and if so were you able to find the culprit?
At this point I'm suspecting a bad ground somewhere, but it isn't either of the two grounds from the controller.
Thanks,
Burt
