Hotel California Latches

When we first looked at the 59GL the push button cabinet latch in the back was in, stuck. You can push in but you can't push out. When we took delivery 4 days later the latch was working. It was the first thing I checked when we got there for our vehicle tour with a technicnian.

A couple weeks later we had the same problem with one of the cabinets over the bed. I put my hand through the adjoining cabinet to force the door latch up&over the fixed portion so I could get to the mechanism. No way to do that with any of the other 8 latches. I fiddled around with it, popped out the inner sleeve and discovered the inside plastic rim had a burr on it. I filed it down and tried it out. Worked a bit but jammed again. The inner ring needs to be much smaller or be manuafactured out of metal, not plastic.

Then I decided to look for an alternative. What I wound up with were WellNuts I bought at Lowe's. The only problem with these was the thread was 1/4 x 20tpi and the cabinet hardware is apparently metric. They screwed on a couple of turns, then stopped, but it was enough to hang out to use. I added a couple of shiny washers on each which look nice. The WellNuts are black and stick out, not shiny & flush like the original push buttons, but we don't have to worry about them jamming.
