Issues with 1.5" Travato chassis lift

We recently had a 1.5" Van Compass lift kit installed with Bilstein struts and upgraded rear shocks.

Vehicle handles very well except now we have a "clunking" sound when steering over anything that causes front suspension to move. The installer has checked all nuts, bolts, etc. Nothing was loose or shows any wear when they actually took the entire front suspension apart after 800+ miles of driving. No rocks fell out of the tight clearances around strut springs and fender.

The "clunking" noise can really only be heard at slow speeds (road noise drowns it out). At highway speeds the vehicle does not "drift" and steering does not feel loose.

Has anyone else encountered any issues with a shorter lift kit with upgraded struts?

Only thing installer came up with is possibility of something in steering system.

Seeking ideas -- we (me, front end alignment folks, & Van Compass lift kit installers) are stumped.
