Towing Too Heavy with 2017 View 24G?

New to Class C . Have a 17 View 24G. It is rated at 5000lb towing. I wonder how risky to tow my Tahoe as a toad. Curb weight is 5400lb. Is this way too risky/ or can I expect some leeway (10-%) over the arbitrary towing weight limit . TIA

5,000 lbs is not necessarily your towing limit, it is likely less. Your numbers are as follows:

GVWR=11,030
GCVWR=15,250
Hitch Capacity 5,000

and you should not exceed any of them

meaning if you are loaded for a trip and towing, you can't weigh more than 15,250 total. At your fully loaded GVWR of 11,030 that leaves only 4,220 for a toad. To tow 5,400 lbs the motorhome can only weigh 9,850 and you are most likely at or over that already before you even put people and gear on board, not to mention the hitch rating and it's attachment is only 5,000 lbs.

So my answer is no, this is a bad idea.

I'm towing a 3,600 lb Jeep and when I get to the mountains I wish it was a Smart car.

When we replaced our Jayco with our 24D View, we had a Wrangler JLU, weighing around 4200. Numbers were right at the limit, as in Brian's post above. Towed it a couple times, and while it did OK, I was not comfortable with keeping it - even though we really liked the Jeep. Bought a '20 Equinox, at around 3600 lbs. Leaves us room for whatever extra stuff we might want/need to bring.

See, it’s not arbitrary. That’s the thing. It’s a top limit for the hitch itself.
