TPMS 2020 View MB MBUX

Reading here seems like aftermarket TPMS is a very popular option. Reading the manual for the 2020 MB chassis with MBUX seems like a true TPMS (not just low pressure) is already built in. Unless I missed it it does not appear to account for the tandem rear wheels.

For those with the new chassis what are you seeing and doing?

The Sprinter documentation includes several features that are not present in the chassis used for View/Navion RVs, including TPMS.

An aftermarket TPMS will be needed.

For our 21VD, we had Lichtsinn add a TPMS along with valve extenders before we drove the RV back to Houston. They installed a TireMinder A1A, which has a small handheld display that we used a command strip to mount at the bottom of the dashboard, between the cupholders.

As added protection, we also had them add tire sealant to all 6 tires, so that even if we do get a slow leak, the sealant should protect us from a blowout.

Our only issue with the TireMinder TPMS is that a high pressure warning is triggered when the tire pressure is 20% above the baseline PSI. The recommended pressure for our View is 61 PSI, so the TPMS triggers a warning when the tires are around 73 PSI - which happens when driving at highway speeds for extended periods, especially in high temperatures.

We had Lichtsinn put nitrogen in the tires, which has helped to reduce the tire pressure at high speeds, but we still periodically get a warning.

Since the tires are rated to handle up to 80 PSI, we can also increase the baseline pressure setting to 62 or 63, which would increase the high pressure trigger point - and only warn us when the tire pressure is closer to 80.

Good to know. I researched their products, especially like the iPhone interface. Does the View come standard with rubber or metal valve stems? I’m not sure about sealant as it makes it impossible to plug a tire on the road and I’d rather maintain that capability. A Stop & Go kit and a portable compressor are in any vehicle when I take a road trip especially in this day of no spare tires.

Also are you saying the View has no TPMS (thought it was mandated by regulation) or just a very rudimentary one?

The newer Views do not come with TPMS. The views are on the Sprinter cut away chassis which is not the exact same as the Sprinter van as there is no back section when delivered to the RV maker. So it will also not have blind view assist like some of the videos out there show. That option is only for the sprinter regular van.

The front and outer dually have metal valve stems but the inside have plastic unfortunately. (This is for the 2020 View) pretty sure the 2021 stayed the same but 2021 owners I'm sure can chime in. No TPMS on the cutaway chassis from the factory and not mandated. Just the regular sprinter van has it.

Many people put in the borg metal dually valves and tpms of their choice.

You will need to install valve stem extenders (metal). Your tires may need to be dismounted and rotated to ensure access to the valves. We use a TST 507 on our 2017 View24J with a Wrangler toad. The only thing I don't like about it is the display that washes out in sunlight.

I have read in other postings that tire sealants and TPMS sensors are not a good combination. Any feedback on that?
My 2015 View was originally fitted with rubber valve stems on all six wheels. After installing a TPMS and clipping a valve stem with a 2x4 in the road, I was glad to have that TPMS. Had the tire repaired at a truck tire shop and went back later to have all valve stems replaced with high pressure stems (rubber with brass core). Rubber valve stems for tires running at 61 PSI should never have been acceptable.

Lichtsinn installed both TPMS and the tire sealant as part of our purchase in early June.

So evidently they weren't concerned about it.

So far, haven't noticed any issues with the TPMS readings.
