Backer plate dimensions/position? 2022 Micro Minnie 2108FBS

I have two spots marked as "backer location" on the passenger-side of my 2022 2108 FBS. I understand that these have a backing plate of sorts which can be drilled into to mount external TV / BBQ / etc.

I'm curious whether anyone has specifics on what exactly makes up the backer plate?

Width / height / thickness?
Metal or wood?
How is attached to the studs?
Where, exactly, is it relative to the stickers?

I just had a quick look at one of these locations with my stud finder, and it showed rather inconsistent results. Seemed like the backing plate might be as wide as 16", but at a few random spots in this span the stud finder gave negatives.

Anyone actually drill-in and see real results?

I'm primarily interested in bolting in a piece of L-track. I can then bolt anything I want to that track (with "L-track studs") without affecting the trailer. (I'm a huge fan of this attachment method and have used it extensively in trailers/vehicles/home for years.)

Winnebago customer service replied to my online inquiry in just a couple hours - well done!

They've sent the following diagrams. Note that the point of view is from INSIDE the trailer.

Inside, looking at the passenger/curb side:

Inside, looking at the driver/road side:

The first image shows a 14x14 "EGS Backer" plate, but also has other (different) EGS information towards the bottom. Despite my trailer having two "Backer plate" locations, the diagram shows "EGS" only in one spot.

"EGS" itself seems to be simply a thin piece of electrogalvanized sheet metal:

I have also been eyeing that label, potentially moving the TV outside I guess if I can find the matching v-shaped mount that is on the swing arm on the tv mount inside, anyone have info on that?
Eeatsleepwoof do you have a link for L-track?

There are about a million different manufacturers for L-track (sometimes advertised as O-track, S-track or Airline track), and I've used a variety over the years. If you're going to be mounting something important (like vehicle seats), then you'll want to make sure to get high-quality, heavy-duty tracks. For light applications such as these, virtually anything off of Amazon will do.

For more ideas of what such tracks can be used for, have a look at the Cargo Trailer Conversion I built a year ago. You'll see such tracks all over the exterior.

I ordered these tracks, and just installed them:

I left an 8" space between the tracks, using a piece of 8"-tall plywood sitting on the bottom track to support the second track as I mounted it. The wide, grey, horizontal decal acted as a good indicator of "level".

Attached into the tracks are a single stud and single ring, just as an example.

I used two 12" tracks, and wouldn't suggest getting sizes larger than that. The backer plate is supposedly 14x14", and after playing around with my stud finder I believe it. A larger track would likely have one or more mounting holes not secured into the backing plate.

I pre-drilled the holes, then used stainless machine screws (non self-tapping/drilling) in 1" length. Hand-tightened until I felt a good amount of resistance so as to not over-tighten/rip through. With silicone, of course.

The good thing about this position is that even if you ever rip out whatever you've mounted, you can drill straight through the wall and secure with a plywood backing plate on the other side - everything is behind cabinetry, so no one will ever see it.

Thanks for the info. I would likely only mount something very light like a TV… never a grill.
I saw a fellow RVer, maybe another site had a grease fire in their roll in griddle!
Likely not as much fun as it sounds… 😁

This is what I ended up using my tracks for...

A paper towel roll on top, and a small (12"x8"), folding shelf below it. The shelf will hold phones while they're charging from the exterior outlet, and will be a good place to leave wallet/keys, which are seemingly always getting in the way and always getting lost.
