Potential Micro Minnie 2108DS Owner Here - 2022 vs 2023

Hello All,

New member here and potential Micro Minnie owner. I'm working with two different dealers at the moment to close the deal on a Micro Minnie FLX 2108DS. One has a 2022 and the other has a 2023. The 2023 is ~$2.5k more than the 2022, and I'm wondering if the newer model (almost post-covid) is worth the price difference.

Thank you for your time.

Hi Cannoli,
When you search this site for:
2108DS
you can see issues which have come-up in the past. What caught my eye had to do with the slideout mechanism.
This thread:
Vroom Slide System Upgrade on Micro Minnie 2108DS
discusses having two Schwintek failures on a 2021 2108DS.
This thread:
2022 Micro Minnie 2108DS slideout broken.
discusses a Technical Service Bulletin for the slide-outs manufactured from October 2021 through January 2022.
I wonder if the slide-out mechanisms are the same between the two trailers?
Welcome to the forum.

I recently purchased a 2022 2108DS. I did not look at the 23 model but there are a few minor quality issues in mine. The backsplash is bubbling off the wall and the dvd player failed first time out. All issues I am going to deal with myself. So far not enough to justify paying $2k more. I do feel like they should make a bit better deal on the 22 as it is well over a year old. I got a screaming deal on mine as they were really trying to move it.

The slideout issue was a lippert manufacturing issue apparently confined to the dates identified. I believed they “beefed up” the “shoe” that the rail slides on after identifying the problem.
If you are in the window of concern it might be a bargaining point?

My experience with that is it depends on how long you plan to keep the trailer. If you trade frequently, the newer model will have a better resale value. If you plan to keep it for several(?) years, the $2.5k will fade to "not much to consider". A lot depends on how well you maintain it.

I think right now is a good time to buy new. CW has an ad offering a 55% discount on certain models. I don't think you can expect that deal on most dealer trailers, but they are not selling like they were in recent times.

With the downturn in the industry, dealer lots are full and they will do just about anything to move inventory. I believe some will sell at or very near dealer invoice. As Blue Sky mentioned, if you plan to keep your rv more than 3 years, the model year won’t make much difference in resale value if the u it is in A-1 condition and has had all maintenance done on it. If it were me, I’d first find a dealer that would be willing to do an invoice +3-5% deal, and then see what the real invoice difference is between 2022 and 2023. Some manufacturers are offering incentives for dealers to move their brand inventory. You won’t see those incentives. They are there to help dealers move stuff to clear space for 2024 models which are beginning to ship now.

@Cannoli be sure to look at the interior photos carefully, I believe the interior colors for 2023 were updated to a lighter color. Easiest way to tell is the backsplash - look for the faux Carrara marble look.

We're in a similar situation, debating the 2022 vs 2023 vs 2024 FLX 2100BH. This is pure speculation, but seems to me like the more recent the better during this timeframe as some of the boom COVID years they were cranking out so much production volume that quality might've suffered.

All, Thank you for the replies. I really appreciate your input and experience. @jrg3170, my mindset is the same as yours. The only indicators that led me to this was the number of recalls published on the 2022's vs the 2023's. I know of one for 2023, but at least 5 for 2021-2022. While this is probably not a great indicator, it's all I have at the moment.

So assuming you like the new interior color then it seems with it.

White and bright isn’t for everyone though…

I like everything except for the faux marble look. Light colors are nice in a small space, but that poor representation of marble just looks cheap.

We bought a 2022 2108FBS about 5 weeks ago. Yes, we had heard about some issues with models built during this time, but, we also got a deal we couldn't pass up — and buttressed the Winnebago warranty with a third party extended warranty, so we feel okay about it. The deal, which I assume others have got, was a new 2022 for $35,700 (MSRP $65,000).

Here's the interesting part. When we went to pick it up, during the pre-delivery inspection, the slide jammed and wouldn't move. Fortunately they had technicians available that day and spent about four hours replacing the slides, and it works fine now. Long term, we'll see. The other issues we found: the DVD player wouldn't accept a disc, as if there were a disc in there already but there wasn't. The quick release on the side hose doesn't work, and the lock to the door wouldn't latch properly and came open a bit several times while traveling even though it was "locked." The issue with the lock was simple — the fiberglass sidewall extends a bit too far into the latch area, so cutting a little away will remedy that.

We'll get these things fixed, and we'd do it again. We're very happy with this trailer.

Thank you for the feedback. This is very helpful. The door didn't close correctly on the 2022 we were looking at also. Do you know if your slide issue was part of the batch that were made in late 2021 that all had that problem? Do you know when yours was manufactured?

I don’t sorry. But if that date is posted on a sticker somewhere I can look. Anybody know where that might be? In the mean time, I’ll take a look.

Mfg. date

Okay, I believe I found the date. LOTS of stickers on these trailers! On the front left side there’s a sticker with the MFG. date: 2/2022.

So if the problems went through January of ‘22, maybe I just missed the slide issues, at least the serious problems mentioned in this thread? I’d like to think so. Anyway, hope this helps.

One word of caution… regardless of what brand or what model travel trailer you purchase it is solely the luck of the draw between getting a trouble-free or troublesome unit.

We all have heard “Covid-build” stories, and such, that could be the case or it could be folklore. But the long term reality has always been any trailer, motorhome, car or truck you buy may or may not be relatively trouble free.

Before Covid it was “built on a Monday vs built on a Friday.” It’s always something. I wouldn’t think everything was built poorly on 1/2022 and everything was fine on the production line by 2/2022.

December 2020 was the peak month for Covid hospitalizations. Covid restrictions started going into effect in !arch 2020.

My Micro Minnie was delivered to dealer in August 2020 as a “2021b” model.
So, I guess you could say my camper is a Covid product. My impression is tha Covid had little or no affect on build quality. Sure there were some things wrong, but hardly anything I couldn’t fix myself. Waits for warranty service were so long during Covid that it made a lot of sense in terms of time, expense, and aggravation, to just roll up your sleeves and get out your toolbox. This allowed us to begin traveling and enjoying our camper months before we would have been able to, if we had gotten on the warranty service calendar. Overall, our Covid build Micro Minnie, IMHO, was just as good as any RV we have purchased in our 45 years of RVing.

Advise you don’t set yourself up for disappointment. Expectations need to be moderate on any new purchase Covid or not. That’s been the case for 50 years running. I think all the tales told in support of “don’t buy a Covid build” are just a bunch of fodder for the YouTubers most of whom are trying to make money by getting you to watch their videos, and then maybe using their links to encourage you to buy something, for which they make money.

If you have concerns about a particular product, it’s worth it to hire a certified RV inspector to conduct a thorough inspection before you sign on the dotted line, new or used.
