Solar Controller Settings 2023 Micro Minnie 2108FBS

I assumed that the Solar Controller on my my newish 2023 Micro 2108FBS would be set-up correctly by the selling dealer? BAD assumption!

My OE solar system is a 200 watt rooftop collector, with GP-PWM-30-SQ controller. The dealer installed two Interstate SRM-24 (flooded / wet cell) batteries. However, said dealer was not intelligent enough to set the controller to "wet cell", and it defaulted to AGM (completely different charging profiles). I happened to notice this discrepancy after 4 months of ownership (while unloading gear in the pass-thru) when I actually looked at the controller display.

Matching is very important if you want your batteries to last! If you have wet cell, the controller must be set correctly to charge (max 10% voltage of AH capacity ... in my case ~8 volts), to maintain proper float charging voltage, and to initiate periodic Equalization Charging. The profile for AGM will charge at up to ~25%, maintain a different float voltage, and delete Equalization Charging (critical function in a wet cell to eliminate sulfation).

Matching the controller to the battery type is easy ... press & hold the selector button for three seconds, scroll to your battery type, confirm by pressing the other button once. For more info, study the Owner's Manual for your controller.

Absolutely true! You really can’t have any expectation of qualified setup of any RV from a dealer. They only do what makes them the most profit. Of course, there are some dealers that care about their customers, but it’s so rare that we have to assume that they are not capable until they prove otherwise.
