Travel Trailer Storm prep, stabilizer down or up?

Any recommendations for safest route for a TT in storage (outside)?

Expecting hurricane force / tropical storm winds. Won't be moving the trailer, but wondering if I should have the stabilizers down, or leave them up, or half way down, so the trailer can rock in the wind?

Thoughts? Last time I had the stabilizers up. Person told me they thought it was going to tip over. But it didn't. Did get some water in around the slide, but with driving sideways wind, not surprised by that.

Hi CliffordM,
I would recommend the following:
  1. Leave the stabilizer jacks retracted (up). They cannot take the load of a violently rocking trailer.
  2. Tie-down the trailer at the four corners of the trailer frame, anchored into the ground with the most substantial metal stakes you can sledge-hammer into the ground. Perhaps circus tent stakes or something like that?
  3. Do not put on a trailer cover and keep all windows sealed tightly.
Good luck; Eagle5
