Winnie Drop 170S- Refrig and other questions

Just got our new 2018 Drop 170s and took it across the country.

1. The refrig works GREAT when plugged in at a site, but when rolling along the high way (set at automatic and gas is on) it doesn't cool at all and smells. Not really like a propane smell, more like burnt sugar. When we park again, it get cold again on electric. Is it normal to not stay cool when driving?
2. I can't remember what the guy said the red knob inside the outside front storage compartment was for...a release valve for???
Thanks for any help!

Aunt, welcome to the Winnie family!

Take your TT fridge in for service. Fridges on propane should work wonderfully in the campsite and on the road. I hardly ever use electric.

Hello and welcome. Congrats on the new rig.

What is the model of your refrigerator? Does it have the LED panel that will display error codes? I assume you have plenty of propane and no air in the lines. Does your stovetop light easily? Since the rig is new, you should have a manual for the refrigerator that will give a few tips about getting it to run properly.

Thank you.

Went through the books, just a basic Dometic. The lights are working correctly. Yes, we can light the stove just fine. Just made an appt. to have it looked at.

Come to think of it, we could hear it trying to light when we stood outside by the vent, but it never "caught" or lighted.

If there is air in the line the fridge will give up after a certain number of tries and not attempt to light the burner again until it is reset. Plugging in or turning the fridge off/on will reset it. What I would do it set the fridge to gas while sitting still and give it a few cycles to get gas to the burner. If that doesn't do it then it is time for the dealer.

The red knob is a switch to turn on/off your electrical from the battery. Turning it off is like removing the cables from the battery terminal.

Still covered by warranty? Any W dealership will honor the warranty. Also, the frig mfgr warranty might be extended to 3 years IF you have it serviced annually by a certified technician.
