Exterior radio removal

Our Jensen radio in the outside entertainment center will not power off and stays on AUX. Anyone know how to remove the unit?

We have the Jensen AWM960 radio with DVD player. I just removed mine this past weekend by unscrewing the screws in the 4 corners of the front bezel of the unit. It pulled straight out the front with all of the connections plugged into the rear.

What radio model do you have?

Post a pic of the front, you may have to make a removal tool.

You can get a manual online that shows how the installation is done. You can go to this link and scroll down about half way, enter in the code shown, and click "Download Your Manual or Guide". Then click "Download Now" on the next screen. You will then get a pdf scanned copy of the User's Manual and Installation Manual. Hope this helps.

Thanks - Mission accomplished. I read my manual. It gives instructions for only in-dash installation & removal. So I popped the bezel and removed the radio using DW's all purpose butter knife. Disconnected the harness so my mind is at rest concerning power drainage. I'll replace the never satisfactory Jensen beefore warm weather.

Maybe of interest: Robert F's 2008 Winnebago Sightseer 35J

I've been very happy with purchases and the detailed instructions from crutchfield.com.

Hugh,

I represent ASA Electronics, the producer of the JENSEN brand of televisions, stereos, and speakers and the Voyager brand of observation monitors and cameras. At ASA, we strive to provide excellent customer service and product satisfaction and would like to offer some assistance in this matter.

If the radio is stuck in AUX IN mode, the radio may need to be reset. This can be accomplished by either power removal or by pressing the small reset button located to the left of PRESET 1 button. As you have disconnected the harness, this will have reset the radio. Can you reconnect the radio and see if you have full functionality again?

In regards to the unit remaining ON, I would recommend installing a two-position toggle switch on the RED ACC+ wire. This will allow the radio to turn OFF rather than STANDBY when not in use. This will eliminate the potential for battery drain as well.

Please let us know if you need any further assistance.

Thanks for the info - reconnected the radio and problems persist. Have another radio now and hope to connect this weekend if I can get the harness to match up.

I like the idea of a switch for the power. Can't stand the darn light from the radio next to the bed at night. Have to put a pillow or tape over the display so I can sleep. To bright.

Sam-tip, which model stereo do you have? If it is one of our wall-mount stereos, we have a new model, our AWM970, that offers adjustable brightness of the LCD display.

JensenRVdirect we have the AWM950. I noticed the new units have a setting of low mid high for dimmer. How low is low. The radio is in our face when you are laying on your right side. I could read a book with the our current model.

Hi JENSENRVdirect...My Jensen radio turns it's self on at just about any time. I had to disconnect the speakers because I could not turn it off. What do you think....lenOrge

Hi Doug and Marcy,

The AWM970's backlight when the radio is in STANDBY mode is quite dim in comparison to the AWM950 and can be set to the lowest level during normal operation as well. If the light in this mode is still too bright, a two-position toggle switch could be installed on the RED +12V SWITCHED power wire. This would turn the radio completely OFF; however, your clock would remain ON, but with no backlight or radio functions. This would also mean that the ALARM feature is disabled.

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Hi lenOgre,

What model is your radio? Depending on model, it may have a three-wire power system (+12V Switched/Accessory, +12V Battery & Negative Ground). If it is a three-wire radio, then the radio is in a STANDBY state when you press the POWER button and a minor power fluctuation or transient voltage is causing the +12V Switched/Accessory wire to "turn OFF" the radio, then "turn ON" when the voltage comes back up.

A two-position toggle switch could be installed on the RED +12V Switched/Accessory power wire. This would turn the radio completely OFF; thus eliminating it from responding to these voltage fluctuations.

A two-wire radio would also eliminate this issue from occurring.

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Hi JENSENRVdirect...Thanks for the quick reply. My radio is a CD 3010X. I plugged the speakers back in, and will try to reset it as described in this thread. lenOrge
