I have an Atwood water heater, Model GCH10A-4E. New from 3/30/2015. I've had a heck of a time getting to the heating element in the back, but I got there. Can anyone tell me what size socket I need to remove the element?? Thanks.
I replaced our element earlier this year. They sell a 'tool' to use to remove it. Waste of money for me. I ended up buying a 1 1/2" socket to remove it. It had been in there for 18 years and wasn't coming out using there 'tool'. Just get the socket and be done.
If you can't get it to break loose (sometimes the socket slips on the thin hex part) a chisel placed near the edge of one of the flats and struck with a sharp blow will eventually get it started.
