2004 Basement AC Capacitor Question

I have been servicing/updating a number of things on my 2004 Adventurer 35U this summer. I was going to pull and service the basement air. I have a PDF will instructions. Unit is working ok but I thought why not pull and service it. It does make a squealing noise when first started but it goes away.

I was wondering if anyone knew if any of the capacitors are marked for polarity? I have looked but don't see any markings?

I have ordered

The plastic outside blower wheel
One compressor start capacitor
Two compressor run capacitors
Run capacitors for the inside and outside blowers

I have
One start capacitor on hand
I have roller bearings to replace the bushings on both blowers

I plan to inspect the motors/shafts and oil the motors as possible.

I'd replace both start capacitors while I was at it.

My plan is to replace all capacitors regardless and keep the old ones as spares. I have a Fluke meter to test them. If any test bad I'll toss and order spares. Unit has worked well and we really like the basement air. The thermostat isn't the best. Large degree swing in cut in temps. I think maybe to limit frequent cycles? There is an updated model (6535-3442) but I have not seen where it improves anything. Current one is (6535-335)

Maybe I should have posted this in the heating and AC section. If so, I'm ok if this thread is moved.

My comment was based on your statement that you'd only ordered one start capacitor.

I have that start-up squeal as well so I'm anxious to see how all this goes for you.

I already had one new start capacitor as a spare so I only needed one more. I will test and keep any of the old ones for spares. I suspected the squeal was bushing related but I really don't know.

Visually the start capacitors look ok. I did pull the leads/PTCR start device and test capacitors with my Fluke Meter. They seem in spec but I'm replacing anyway as I want spares.I did an ohm test on the PTCR as well.

I just don't see any polarity markings on the capacitors. With testing I was careful in marking the leads.

Did you order the Capacitor Set with the Start Device for the Compressors? The capacitor for the compressor requires that the start device and capacitor both be replaced at the same time as a matched set. Many times you may have the start device fall apart when you pull it off the capacitor as low voltage from brownouts does beat them quite a bit.

As I recall those are just 2 conductor caps without any color coding or polarity. Tomorrow I will check to see if I can find the ones I pulled when I replaced mine and verify this. Somehow I have a vision of a white dot on one but I am not sure if it was for the basement air compressor.

I have not had any more start devices or capacitors fail since getting an Autoformer to boost low voltage. Have not had any more transfer switch or other 120 volt components fail since then either and its been over 10 years now since getting the Autoformer.

Service on my basement air is on the list of things to do also
Is it wise to change the inside blower wheel also
Or are the problems I read , just about the outer blower wheel ?

I just got my order of parts over the weekend. I did get the complete start capacitor kit including the PTCR start device. I got the outside plastic blower wheel as well. It will be a bit before I start working on it. Have another house project in the works right now.

Basement Ac

Hi I have a 2003 Journey and would like to know where you ordered your AC parts from. Also is there a complete kit you recommend if not what parts should I replace to not break down in AZ.
Thanks Kenn

I ordered from AdventurerRV. Search for them. I had all my part numbers and just searched on there site for each component. Ordered from them as they had the plastic blower wheel and all the capacitors over getting them from a number of different sites. Lichtsinn RV might have all the items. Didn't try them. There isn't a kit. I just read and decided if I pull the unit I was going to replace the blower wheel and all the capacitors. I also have roller bearings for both fan over the bushings. I ordered those last fall. I would have to look where I got those. Amazon or Ebay if I recall. I saw a PDF where someone suggested going with roller bearings. I'm also going to inspect the motors and oil them if they are ok.

Here are some part information for the bushings or bearings. Pretty sure I searched and ordered from Amazon or Ebay.

Bronze Bearing Grainger Item 2X567
Sealed bearing Grainger 2X897

If you order from AdventurerRV be patient on the order. Mine took about two weeks.

Try here:

(If I have the model # wrong, you can search arvparts.com for the correct model)

It was my understanding that the inside blower wheel is already plastic. Might be wrong but thought that was the case. Not all outside ones were metal. They might have changed over at some point. Mine happened to be metal so I ordered the plastic one so I could change it while I have it apart.

Since you have to take the unit out to replace one blower, unless the cost is prohibitive, why not do both?

I do believe my outside is a metal one . Its been a year ago I had the panel open to oil the one motor bearing I can get to . On the bottom there is an additional screen added by the original owner . That I dont want to remove . I just got under there with a flash light to confirm and it does look like metal . When I get to this Job Id like to change both if available Along with the bearing up grade .
