I may have posted something like this in other threads but I thought a dedicated thread would be better.
Many Winnebago rigs have 3 HVAC roof units configured into 2 zones. Zone 1 can be both front units leaving zone 2 for the rear bedroom area, as in my case.
The Coleman RVComfort.zc thermostat can handle up to 4 zones. The wiz kids at Winnebago chose no to give certain models of coaches with 3 units three zones!??
It was confirmed by a Airxcel tech that the room temperature sensor will function as the sensor for zone 1.
Last week I set my front unit controller to zone 3. Now I have 3 separate zones!
Because of the noise when both front units are running some folks either turn off the breaker to one of them or install a switch to control a unit without having to open the service panel covers. I was going to go the switch route when I found out about this option.
To do the mod, disconnect the t-stat, remove the weather cover of the front unit. Remove the rectangular cover over the condenser. Remove the wingnuts from the controller. Disconnect the B+ (R+) lead and the B- lead for board isolation. Remove the controller and then the controller cover. Locate the zone jumper. It should be on "1". Move it to 3.
Close everything up, connect the disconnected leads and install the t-stat.
Now test your HVAC. You will find that zone 3 has no gas heat feature. This is not a problem. It still functions on zones 1&2.
My t-stat is behind a door covering my information center and other controls. This seems to have little affect on the way the sensor on the t-stat functions.
One thing I noted is the offset of the sensor seems off by several degrees. You may not have this problem. My t-stat is old.
My other HVAC mod was to replace the .zc with the Micro-Air Easy Touch 354 t-stat. What a great improvement over the .zc. I now have Blue and WiFi access to my t-stat. It even gives me the local temp! What's great about this feature is, when away, I can keep an eye on the coach temperature. This is my home. Like a stick & brick, the new WiFi connected devices help to keep things safe and secure. This simple feature helps me to make certain that I have the correct type of heat if I'm away for a few days. I can set the functions remotely. If I'm visiting family for a few days and I see the temp is too cool for the heat pump I can switch to gas heat, thus protecting the basement from freeze up and then switch back to heat pump when the weather improves. If you have a pet and are away for several hours you can make certain the A/C is set correctly and correct the t-stat to keep your little friend comfortable.
Happy trails.
