2024 Minnie Winnie 22R - porcelain toilet help?

Hi all, we would really like to replace the toilet in our 2024 Minnie Winnie 22R. Initially we just wanted to replace the toilet seat, as it’s pretty flimsy, but we’re having a tough time even doing that. Nothing seems to fit.

Are there any recommendations here as to the best toilet for the job without having to get crazy with an install? We were hoping to do this ourselves, and would prefer a porcelain toilet or at least a porcelain or wooden toilet lid as ours is the default flimsy plastic (and my hubby is a big fella! lol).

Any help would be greatly appreciated here. We’ve already tried a couple of toilet seats out, and they don’t fit correctly. Thanks in advance!

Hi, congratulations on your new Minnie! There are two main suppliers of standard RV toilets - Thetford and Dometic. Some will accept regular home toilet seats and come in porcelain and/or plastic. They are fairly easy to replace (although not an enjoyable process) if you are a somewhat handy DIY person. This assumes that you do not have what is called a macerator toilet (which includes a built in grinder and pump). Macerator toilets are a whole other issue.

The two tricky parts are to make sure you double or triple check the dimensions of the new toilet to make sure it will fit in the space you have available. The second issue is how the water line is connected to the toilet. Some have a 90 degree bend that is part of the RV water line and some have a 90 degree bend that is part of the toilet so you might have to make some plumbing adaptations.

Good luck. After you get your shiny new toilet installed, you can start thinking about adding a bidet!

The Dometic Sealand 510 commode is taller than standard, has a porcelain bowl, it's completely rebuildable, and a wooden standard round ring fits on it easily.

There are a few gotchas when replacing toilets with a different model and or different manufacturer.

First is the measurements for behind the toilet to the wall. You must insure the floor flange lines up with the output of the new toilet. If you don’t want to rebuild all the plumbing then you need to examine the plumbing for the flush water piping on your current toilet and compare it to the new toilet’s fittings. It may seem obvious but you must be sure that the bathroom door and any cabinet doors still work with the new toilet’s size as well.

I don’t mean to scare you off but be aware that many a replacement toilet has been purchased that cannot be made to fit. Starting with the same brand can be a help in this regard.

Some RVs have tons of room and almost anything will fit. But I doubt that is true of a 22’ Class C. Winnebago may have used that toilet because it was the only one that fits. I’ve seen it happen that way before.
